Thetford is the industrial engine and historic gateway to the district, situated on the river Thet. There is a wealth of heritage in the town that attracts national and international visitors and it is well known for being the base for the TV series Dad’s Army.

Thetford’s most famous son was Thomas Paine who was born of Quaker parents in 1737. Paine the influential and oft-quoted “The Rights of Man”.

The town has seen a substantial investment of late to the tune of over £10 million pounds of European and local and regional sector regeneration funds.

The town has a diverse and growing community including an established Portuguese community and a growing East European presence attracted by the job opportunities in the area.

There are plans in place to revamp the town centre and grow the already established industrial areas on the outskirts of the town. With an anticipated 6,000 new houses in the area over the next few years Thetford will see changes that will improve the area and make it the place to live and work.
